It's the two year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting the Gulf Coast and devastating New Orleans.  Two years later the city still has thousands of buildings that need to be demolished (thus tons to rebuild), infrastructure that needs to be repaired and rebuilt, schools that need to be opened, people that need to come back, and violent crime that is skyrocketing.  Our lying and unreliable president has not come through on the aid and rebuilding that was promised.  Why is the National Guard not there knocking this out to help New Orleans recover?  OH—-yeah... they were shipped overseas to invade Iraq.

Now I look at Mexico what was his by Hurricane Wilma that same year and it sat over the coast of Mexico for like 2 days.  Wilma while in the Caribbean Sea was the strongest (lowest mb pressure) hurricane ever recorded.  Anyway, the Mexican Government sent in the troops right away and they worked towards restoration and to control crime.  Here is a nation that is much poorer than the US and is still considered a developing country but they did a much better job helping their citizens and with the entire restoration process than the US has done. Here are some photos of our area 2 weeks after Wilma (Nov 05) and then almost a year after Wilma (June and Oct 06).

This was our complex as seen from the beach.  Our sea wall, bath house, and a villa were destroyed and the beach in front of our complex almost did not exist.

The devastation up and down the beach was horrible.  This house was cracked in half and then from the other side here is the same house and area after restoration.
