The Cuban Redneck Wedding

Saturday evening I went to the wedding of a member of my adopted Cuban family.  As most people know I am so lucky to have my Cuban family here in SW Florida.  They are my family away from my family.  So my friend L's daughter L was getting married.  She married a nice young man.  Before I met him for the first time I was told he was a big ole redneck and just a nice guy.  I met him and that description was accurate.  Now, I'm not using the word redneck as demeaning or negative word.

The wedding was a cool social experiment to watch as a Cuban family and a redneck family merged and socialized.  Most of the Cuban family was dressed to the nines and most of the redneck family was very casual.  The music was a mix of classic rock, dance, and Latino.  There was an open bar and good food and great people.

The reception was supposed to be from 6:30 to 10:30 but they extended it to 11:30.  Now 11:00 is just when a Cuban party gets going.  By 10:00 PM there was really mostly just members of the Cuban family left at the party.  I have this stupid summer cold so I was not going to drink.  However, it's a party and I decided to drink so Skot and I got a room as the reception was at a local Hilton hotel.  When the ballroom closed after 11:30 we moved the party to the pool.  There was a huge cooler with drinks and a lot of people were there for the continued party and most had a room at the hotel.

Nellie and cousin Tony were going to stay with Skot and I.  Nellie went up to bed around midnight.  I was tired and went to bed around 1:30.  Skot and Tony came up around 5:00.  I got up around 8:00 the next morning and Nellie got ready and went home.  I got Skot and Tony up around 10:30 and then we heard from his sister who was in the room across from us.  Everyone got ready and headed on out.  It was a great party and a wonderful night as the Cubans and rednecks became one big happy family.
