Mexico Trip - I'm Back
I had a wonderful time in Mexico. I am so glad my family got to come here. I love them so much and I miss them. It was great to see them and have them at our condo and they could see how wonderful it is here. On our last day my Mom said to me "the more time I spend here the more I don't want to leave.." I never really expected to hear that. I thought everyone would love it there but that was a wonderful reaction. My photo thing did not go so well. I started off with Sue taking some photos of me in the Caribbean Sea (doing the deadman's float - it is almost Halloween). The next day I had her take some of me hanging from the sea wall. The sea wall is stark white and the sky very clear and blue so it was a cool backdrop. None of these took. I don't know what she did. So below is the only one from the trip. I still want to try this but will do it at another time.
This is pretty much how the week went.
Thursday - I had a good flight into Cancun and my friend Margarita picked me up at the airport. She helped me to communicate at our local cell phone store so I could buy a pay as you go cell phone with a Mexico phone number. I then went to the beach, to the town square, swimming, and unpacked and did a couple little maintenance things to the condo.
Friday - Went to the Cancun airport to pick up my cousin Sue. We went to Mega (like a Super Target) to get supplies for the week (vodka, beer, wine, food, etc). We went to Ojo de Agua for happy hour and Sue got pretty happy. We went to the beach, town square, swimming and to Playa del Carmen for dinner, drinks, dancing.
Saturday - We were bums. We spend the day at the beach and just kicked back and relaxed. I got to do some reading. It was the only day I made it to one of the internet cafes to check e-mail and make updates.
Sunday - Sue and I went to the Cancun airport to pick up Mom, Dad, Uncle Jim, Aunt Judy, Carmen. We took the ADO buss to Puerto Morelos from the airport. We spend the afternoon at the beach and went to happy hour Ojo de Agua.
Monday - We all went to the beach and into town. Dinner had a nice birthday dinner John Gray's for Sue's and my birthdays. John Gray was a five star chef with the Ritz in California. He came to Mexico and opened his own restaurant. The food and presentation are excellent. Everyone had a great time.
Tuesday - Sue had to leave. She was working on a big conversion project and could only get away for a long weekend. Took the family to Playa del Carmen for shopping. My friend Elaine had introduced me to a rather cute restaurant owner named Eric. He is French and has lived in Puerto Morelos for many years. We had dinner at his restaurant Le Marlin Blue and the food was excellent.
Wednesday - We went to Tulum and Xel-Ha. The Tulum Mayan ruins are simply breathtaking. It was the third time I had been there and it was a perfect day. There were also 3 hot US backpackers visiting the ruins. It added to the already spectacular views. Xel-Ha is a water based eco-park. We went down the mangrove river and snorkeling in the bay. They have an all-inclusive package so we also did a good deal of drinking too.
Thursday - This was another day of the beach and town. We all went to dinner with Margarita at Hola Asia. This restaurant is on the top of a building on the zocolo (town square) and right on the water. It is a really cool place.
Friday & Saturday - More days of the beach and town. On Friday we had dinner with my friend Elaine at Bodo's.
Sunday - Mom, Dad, Uncle Jim, Aunt Judy, and Carmen have to leave at 8 AM. Their flight is at 10:45 only mins away as I was writing this. I am leaving around 11 as my flight is at 1:45. I hate flying these days. I use to never mind, but now even the slightest bump freaks me out on the inside. I'm glad it's a short flight back to Florida but it's rainy, cloudy, sometimes strong winds here today and last night (the only not so nice weather all week). This makes me more nervous. Can't wait to it's over and I land in Ft Lauderdale and then drive 1 1/2 hours home to Naples.
This is me walking out in the clear Caribbean waters of our condo beach...

I hope you had a good birthday
Flying makes me nervous too, well when it is windy or rainy, at least. I'm glad you made it back safe and sound.
That's really sweet about your Mom too
